Abstract

1,088,008. Weighing apparatus. FMC CORPORATION. Oct.14, 1964 [Nov.20, 1963], No.41831/64. Heading G1W. In sorting apparatus in which articles are check weighed and sorted according to their weight, there is provided a weighing unit S comprising a housing 40 whose upper surface forms an approach platform 42 for articles K supplied one-by-one from a conveyer 60 and a weighing platform 44 which is mounted by springs 116, 130 in the housing 40 and arranged to form a continuation of the approach platform 42, the platforms 42, 44 being inclined to the horizontal so that articles K slide under gravity from the weighing unit S to a deflector D. The approach platform 42 may be ribbed in its longitudinal direction and is arranged between guide rails 46 mounted on posts 86 attached to the housing 40. The weighing platform 44 which may be in the form of a single runner 100 is supported at its lower end by a plate 108 on the resilient cantilever springs 116 in the housing 40 and its downward deflection due to an article K it supports is resisted by the triangular leaf spring 130 which is adjustable suitably to position the weighing platform 44 by a manually operated gearing mechanism. The deflection of the weighing platform 44 under load is sensed by magnetic reed switches 164 mounted in the housing 40 and connected to circuitry so as to operate the deflector D which suitably directs the weighed articles K from the weighing platform 44.
