Abstract

1,085,067. Radiant tubes. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. March 29, 1966 [April 2, 1965], No. 14181/65. Addition to 1,067,511. Heading F4B. In a fluent fuel fired radiant tube, fuel is fed via a central passage 9, combustion air is fed to a passage 13 through an annular passage 11 surrounding the end of the radiant tube, and combustion products escape through a passage 15. Radial internal and external fins on a heat exchanger 31 separating passages 13 and 15 improve the heating of the combustion air by the combustion products, and the inflowing air in the jacket 11 prevents heat loss to the surroundings. The combustion air in passage 13 flows in the opposite direction to the combustion products in passage 15. In a hairpin tube, the fuel feed tube is omitted and the heated air and fuel are fed to the other end of the tube from that accommodating the heat exchanger. The heated air may be used in another similar radiant tube.
