Abstract

Molten metal is treated with a vaporizable additive by locating the latter in a cavity formed in the bottom of the ladle, the cavity then being closed by a plate which is so designed that it melts when a suitable depth of metal has been poured into the ladle. The treatment of cast iron with magnesium is particularly referred to.
