Abstract
In a method of post-welding heat treatment of jointing and other rail welds, heat is supplied to the region of the weld by directing burner flames on to the rail at the transition between the foot and the web or between the web and the head of the rail. The duration of heating may be controlled automatically or by limiting the amount of available fuel. Apparatus for carrying out the treatment comprises a multi-part housing enclosing the foot and web of the rail and in which the burners may be mounted, while a detachable cap for covering the rail head may also be provided.
