Abstract

1,078,919. Cathode heaters; ohmic resistors. VARIAN ASSOCIATES. Nov. 4, 1964 [Dec. 23, 1963], No. 44997/64. Headings H1D and H1S. A non-inductive wire configuration for a cathode heater or a resistor comprises two adjacent spirally-wound layers of wire, wherein current flow in adjacent wire turns of each layer, and in adjacent wire turns of the two layers, is in opposite directions. In particular, a cathode heater for a klystron may comprise a two layer, double spiral formed by arranging a single continuous wire as shown in Fig. 5c, and winding the loop end 52 and the free ends 54 spirally in the same direction about the posts 56, 58. A two-layer cylindrical cathode heater as shown in Fig. 7 may be formed by bending a wire in half and winding a double helix on a first cylindrical surface and then reversely winding a second double helix on a second cylindrical surface coaxial with the first.
