Abstract
1,078,770. Testing fuel injection pumps. RENAK-.WERKE VEB. Dec. 22, 1965, No.54359/65. Heading F1A. The tightness of the seal between the plunger and cylinder elements of a fuel injection pump are tested by mounting the plunger 11 and cylinder 9 to be tested and a comparison pump plunger 12 and cylinder 10 in sleeves 7 and 9, mounted in a housing 2. The pumping chambers are filled with fuel by a piston 33 via a channel 6 and the cylinders are closed by plates 21 and 22. The closing pressure on the plate 21 is applied by a beam 27, moved downwardly by an abutting eccentric 29, and on the plate 22 by a set screw 23. The plungers 11 and 12 are subjected to the force applied by the piston 19 of a pressure cylinder 41 through the arms 17 and 18 of a balance beam. The travel of the plungers 11 and 12 is dependent upon the tightness of the respective seals and this is measured by a dial gauge 39, connected to move with the plunger 12 and having a sensing pin abutting arm 37 connected to plunger 11. The difference in travel of the plungers may be measured by optical or electrical means.
