Abstract
1,078,342. Semi-conductor devices. WESTINGHOUSE BRAKE & SIGNAL CO. Ltd. Dec. 21, 1965 [Feb. 23, 1965], No. 7749/65. Heading H1K. A semi-conductor device such. as a silicon controlled rectifier comprises a semi-conductor element 2 mounted on a copper base 1, an insulating member 4 urged towards the element 2 by an annular leaf spring 5, and a lead 3 which passes through the member 4 and carries a first electrical contact urged into engagement with a first electrode of the element by a spring 12 acting between the contact and the member. The second electrode of the element is held in engagement with the base 1, which constitutes a second contact, by the pressure of the spring 5, and contact is made with the third electrode by a lead 11 also passing through the member 4. The member 4 has bores 15 and 16 (not shown) to receive further leads or for cooling purposes. The leaf spring 5 may be replaced by a compression spring encircling the member 4 and bearing at one end against a portion of a metal cap 6 which forms, together with the base 1 and an insulating lid 8, an evacuated housing.
