Abstract

1,076,201. Burning refuse. J. WOTSCHKE. Dec. 6, 1963, No. 48388/63. Heading F4B. Refuse is fed down an annular shaft 11 to form a funnel-shaped free surface 3 to which heat is supplied from a burner 5 mounted in an arched roof member 7. Slag, and some of the combustion gases are taken off from the bottom of the funnel through an outlet 2, the remainder of the combustion gases passing upwards through the shaft 11 to dry and preheat the refuse. Gases from the top of the shaft 11 and the gases 20 from the outlet 2 are burned in a secondary combustion chamber 18. Air supplies L1-L5 are directed to the burner, as secondary air supplies through the roof 7, to the refuse in the shaft 11 and to the secondary combustion chamber 18. Water seals 14, 15, 24, 25 permit the rotation of the casing 6, which has projections 22 for agitating the material. In another embodiment (Fig. 4, not shown), liquid waste flows over the edge of a flange forming a cup surrounding the roof member to form a film over the funnel-shaped furnace body. The slag is collected in a rotating receptacle below the furnace and is granulated by centrifugal action.
