Abstract

5-Alkyl-2-pyrrolidones are prepared by a single stage process in which a primary alkylamine containing at least 2 carbon atoms is reacted with methyl acrylate at 130 DEG C. to 180 DEG C. in the presence of tertiary butyl peroxide.
