Abstract
1,071,728. Shearing. VERWALTUNGSGESELLSCHAFT MOELLER UND NEUMANN OFFENE HANDELSGESELLSCHAFT. Oct. 1, 1965 [Nov. 6, 1964], No. 41716/65. Heading B3W. An apparatus for trimming the ends of, and for removing a sample length from travelling rolled material such as rods or bars comprises two disc cutter shears 1, 2 disposed one behind the other and guide tubes 3, 4 in front of the shears which positively displace the rolled material to effect a cut and is characterized in that the shears can be rotated bodily through 90 degrees so that cuts can be effected by pivotal movement of the guide tubes in both directions. Operation.-In order to crop the leading and trailing ends of a length of material and cut a sample length from each end of the remainder the guide tubes 3 and 4 are moved to the position of Fig. 1a. The leading end of the material passes through the guide tube 3 and operates a photo-electric cell which causes the guide tube 3 to swing to a position in line with the fixed tube 5. The leading end A is thereby cut off and the remainder passes through the tube 5 into the tube 4. When the required sample length has passed the guide tube 4 is swung to a position in line with the guide tube 6, so that the sample length is cut off by the shear 2 and the remainder of the material passes through the tube 6. The pivotal movement of each of the guide tubes 3 and 4 initiates the movement of the shears 1 and 2 from the positions shown in Fig. la to that shown in Fig. 1e. When the trailing end of the rod approaches the guide tubes 3 and 4 are moved simultaneously to the position shown in Fig. 1a so that a sample length which is equal in length to the distance between the shears is cut out and passes down the guide tube 4 and the trailing crop end passes down the guide tube 3. Pivotal movement of the guide tubes again initiates movement of the shears which return to the position shown in Fig. 1a. In an elaboration of the apparatus for cutting an additional sample length from the middle of the length of material the guide tube 3 directs the material into one of two parallel paths, one of which leads to the shear 2 and the other of which leads to a third shear 7, Fig. 2 (not shown). Each of these parallel paths contains two pivoted guide tubes, the first of which, in each ease, directs cut-off material out of the line and the second of which displaces the material through the shear 2 or 7 and either directs it out of the line or into a fixed guide tube.
