Abstract

1,071,424. Vertical kilns. NORTON CO. Aug. 20, 1964 [Aug. 20, 1963], No. 1412/66. Divided out of 1,071,423. Heading F4B. A refractory block 58 of rectangular section for building a vertical kiln comprises vertical walls 62, a sloping shelf 70 extending downwardly from one wall and terminating short of the opposite wall in a vertical end surface 76, a circular access opening 64 in said opposite wall, and holes formed in the other pair of walls so that electric resistance rods may be disposed parallel to and above and below the shelf. In constructing the kiln, alternate blocks are turned through 180 degrees about a vertical axis.
