Abstract

1,071,205. Packaging. A. SCHMERMUND. May 11, 1966 [May 22, 1965], No. 20855/66. Addition to 1,023,841. Heading B8C. The machine described in Specification 1,023,841, for disposing a two-part wrapper in a U-shaped manner about an object is modified in that instead of using a variable speed webfeed to effect overlap the larger wrapper portion is decelerated to allow the smaller portion to overlap it. A suction belt 54 is arranged to feed the wrapper portions after they have been cut from the web and a suction box 27 at the end of the belt remote from the web cutter decelerates the larger portion A after it has been released from the belt so as to allow the following shorter portion B to overtake the trailing edge of the larger portion. The web is fed at constant speed by rollers 15 past the cutter. The larger portion A is fed by the suction belt 54 past the box 27 which slidably engages its trailing end, the latter being held away from the belt and arrested while the portion B is fed into a partial overlapping position. Both wrappers are then forwarded by the rollers 30, 31<SP>1</SP>.
