Abstract

1,069,106. Razors. EVERSHARP Inc. March 21, 1966 [April 26, 1965], No. 12277/66. Heading B4B. In a razor, the spider stem 14 operating cap sections 18, 19 to clamp a blade 31 against a platform 20 has its lower end in screw-threaded engagement with a ratchet stem 24 which is in driving engagement with a drive knob 26 through the intermediary of an annular torsion spring 25 having a projection 57 disposed in an axial groove 58 in the stem 24, the lower end of the stem 24 having notches 48 engageable by tongues 63, 64 of a ratchet spring 28 provided with lugs 61, 62 engaging keyways 55, 56 in the bore 53 of the knob 26, the arrangement being such that when the clamping force on the blade reaches a predetermined magnitude, the spring 25 slips relative to the knob 26 and the spring 28 is rotated relative to the stem 24. At such time, the notched end of the stem 24 rotates relative to the spring 28 causing the tongues 63, 64 to alternately be depressed and released for extension to the free position, thereby providing a clicking sound serving to alert the user that the predetermined clamping force has been attained. On reversing the direction of rotation of the knob 26, the spring 25 forms a positive drive and the free ends of the tongues 63, 64 engage the sides of the notches 48 to form a driving connection to rotate the stem 24 in the reverse direction and thereby release the clamping force on the blade.
