Abstract

1,068,380. Beams; suspended ceilings. DONN PRODUCTS Inc. Dec. 15, 1964 [Oct. 28, 1964], No. 51070/64. Headings E1K and E1W. A cold-rolled, as shown, or extruded, metal beam 10, forming one of the main members of a grid of beams (Fig. 5, not shown) for supporting ceiling panels, e.g. acoustic tiles, has a lower flange 12 for supporting the sides of said tiles, a perforated web 11, and an interrupted upper hollow bead 13. The notch 19 in the bead, the indentations or perforations 25- 30, and the generally E-shaped hole cut out of the web are arranged so that on expansion of the beam due, e.g., to heat, the remaining web portion 7 forms a double bend, and the flange portion between the vertical notches 20 and 21 buckles into a V-shape, the bead portions on each side of notch 19 overlapping each other in the buckled state. Beam 10 may be supported from beams at a higher level via holes 14- 16.
