Abstract

1,068,001. Door latches. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. April 27, 1965 [Sept. 15, 1964], No. 17614/65. Heading E2A. A door latch mechanism comprises a pivoted detent spring biased to hold the latch in a latching position, a pivoted link pivotable by both a first and second latch release member about a pivot to release the detent from engagement with the latch and thus unlatch the latch, the first latch release member including a link movable by both a first and a second locking member into a second position so that pivoted movement of the link by the release mamiber does not release the detent. The door latch comprises two cooperating pivoting latch jaws 15 spring biassed to unlatching position and retained in latching position with a sinker pin of elliptical cross section by two meshing toothed plates 21, 22 pivoting on the same pivots as the latches. One plate 21 is spring biassed to latch disengaging position in an anticlockwise direction. The latches are held engaged by a spring urged detent 34 a projection on which engages a tooth 32 on a plate 22. The detent is released by pressing a push button on an outside handle 63 which pivots a lever 45 connected to a link 46 which has a flange 58 which engages a projection 57 on the detent. An inside handle operates a bell crank lever also to disengage the detent 34. The link 46 is moved downwardly and rendered inoperative either by a key operated lock or by pressing a knob 87 on either side of the door they being connected to opposite ends of a lever 72 having a slot 75 in which stud 54 of link 46 moves. If the link is in inoperative position and the door is closed the end of the detent engages the link flange 58 to move the link upwardly to actuating position. The link may be retained in inoperative position by pressing the push button as the door is closed and locked.
