Abstract

1,066,863. Push-type Centrifugal strainers. ESCHER WYSS A.G. Nov. 11, 1963 [Nov. 14, 1962], No. 44453/63. Heading B1D. A liquid-solid mixture being separated in centrifugal strainer drum 3 is maintained at constant temperature by a duct 14 which returns ventilation gas issuing into liquid collection chamber 5 to the interior of drum 3, the centrifuging chamber 2 being gas-tight, and means 15 maintaining gas temperature. Mixture enters drum 3 by feed pipe 6, liquid collects in chamber 5, solids are expelled from drum 3 into chamber 4 by the reciprocating plunger. Motor-controlled valves 9, 10 and the outlet from chamber 5 being immersed in liquid (Fig. 1, not shown) keep chamber 2 gas-tight. A fan 19 blows air through duct 14 past heat exchanger 15, which may heat or cool the air, temperature being controlled by a sensing device 16 which monitors either the air leaving drum 3 or alternatively the separated liquid, and controls a valve admitting heating or cooling agent to the heat exchanger. Chamber 2 and duct 14 may be insulated. Deflecting plates 26 prevent liquid entering duct 14, which includes a liquid separator 20 with discharge 21, and a feed 22 for washing liquid which flushes out separator 20.
