Abstract
1,066,424. Shearing; bending. TORRING- TON MANUFACTURING CO. Feb. 15, 1966, No. 6536/66. Headings B3E and B3W. A combination apparatus comprises a wireforming machine having a mandrel (20) and a plurality of tool-carrying slides (12, 14, 16, 18), Fig. 1 (not shown), radially disposed around the mandrel, a wire feed mechanism (22) and a shear 28 disposed between the feed mechanism (22) and forming machine, the shear including a cutter 36 movable transversely across the feedpath of the wire and a co-operating cutter 34, which is also movable transversely of the feed path but in a direction at right-angles to the movement of the cutter 36, between a first position in which it is adjacent the feedpath and on one side thereof and a second position remote from the feed-path, to allow free movement of the end portion of wire 54 severed by the cutter. The cutters sever a short section from the strip and are shaped to provide the required form on the trailing end of the severed length and the leading end of the remainder of the wire, Fig. 4 (not shown). The cutter 36 has a reciprocating motion imparted to it by a cam track which engages a camfollower directly connected to the cutter. The transverse movement of the co-operating cutter 34 is obtained from a similar cam which actuates a roller follower which is connected to the cutter 34 by a simple lever.
