Abstract
1,065,619. Evaporating liquids. VICKERS Ltd. Oct. 21, 1964 [Oct. 21, 1963], No. 41556/ 63. Heading B1B Cement slurry or other substances are dried on the surface of a revolving drum B heated internally by the vapours arising from the evaporation of the liquid of the substance, the temperature of the vapours having been raised in a compressor 14, with or without the addition of steam being injected into pipe 15. The drum dips into the slurry 3 in an outer chamber A so forming a liquid layer on the drum, and after evaporation the dried substance is removed by scrapers 10 to a screw conveyer. The condensate from drum B passes through a heat exchanger 17 to heat the incoming slurry Air is extracted through pipe 20. The drum wall may comprise an inner sheeting 1B (Fig. 3, not shown) to which outer sheeting 1A is secured defining with the inner sheeting annular closed spaces 1C extending co-axially around the drum. Ports 1D allow for the passage of vapour into the spaces 1C, and steel balls may be provided, to have a scouring effect. The spaces may be triangular, rectangular or sinusoidal in cross section.
