Abstract

<PICT:1065509/C6-C7/1> A work-holder for use in electroplating one side only of a plate-like object having two sides with a rim between and extending around the sides, e.g. a gramophone record matrix comprises a back-up support 18 having an electrically conducting face, an insulated electrical lead 19 connected to the conducting face, and a masking ring or closed loop 21 of elastomeric material arranged to fit around and over the rim of the object and over the edge of the back-up support to clamp and seal the object to the conducting face of the support and to mask the rim. The edge of the masking ring adjacent the object may be chamfered to provide a surface directed towards the rim. In another form the masking ring may be of circular cross-section with a radial slot for receiving the rim of the object. The masking ring may also be of non-circular outline.
