Abstract

1,065,261. Photo-electric control of photographic printing. T. A. FRENNING. Sept. 17, 1963, No. 19830/63. Heading G1A. [Also in Division G2] A photo-resistance 1 connected in series with a current indicator 13, a battery 2 and a plurality of adjustable resistance 5-8 which are selectable by switches 9-12, is combined with an adjustable optical attenuator 21 to form an instrument for determining the exposure time and filter factors in colour photo-copying processes. The resistors 5-8 are employed for setting-up adjustments respectively in blue, green, red and white light measurements. A switch 4 permits the battery voltage to be halved for reduced sensitivity. The optical attenuator may comprise a step-wedge, Fig. 3 (not shown), a pair of relatively rotatable polarizing elements, Fig. 4 (not shown), or a displaceable triangularshaped diaphragm, Fig. 5 (not shown). The instrument is provided with scales which are calibrated in terms of exposure time and standard subtractive filter values. The Specification describes the use of the instrument (1) to determine the three (red, green and blue) exposure times in an additive photo-copying method and (2) to determine the three (cyan, magenta and yellow) filter factors and the exposure time in a subtractive photo-copying process.[see Division G2
