Abstract
1,065,151. Mat holders; carpet holders. F. W. MEANS & CO. June 10, 1964 [June 11, 1963; March 5, 1964; April 21, 1964], No. 24093/64. Heading A4S. [Also in Division B5] A holder for a launderable, tufted, mat of cotton, rayon &c. treated with a dustretaining material comprises a base sheet of flexible vinyl plastic, having ribs on the under surface, and a pad also of vinyl plastic welded or adhered to the upper surface of the base sheet, the mat being retained superposed on the pad by foldedback end portions of the base sheet. The free edges of the folded-back end parts form a stopping edge to the mat to prevent tripping and the free edge of the end parts are bent downwardly to bite into the tufts of the mat, the folding and bending of the base sheet being done by heat and pressure in an appropriate die. In modifications, the folded-back portions are replaced by parts welded to the ends of the base sheet, a pad is provided at each end of the holder and additional pads have upstanding prongs to engage the back of the mat. In a further modification sloping pads are provided at each side of the mat, and for use with a carpet, a pad or pads and a folded-back portion is provided at one end only of a base sheet which extends under the carpet.
