Abstract
1,064,061. Baling presses. FLETCHER & STEWART Ltd. Dec. 17, 1963 [Dec. 19, 1962], No. 48026/62. Heading B5F. In a baling press comprising an outer shell 1, pivoted at its rear end and supported at its front end by a load cell, the material to be baled is compressed against a door at the front of the shell by a plunger 9, the door subsequently being hydraulically raised and the plunger further forwarded to eject the bale. The plunger is actuated by a cylinder 50 slidable over a central hydraulic piston 59 which piston is carried by a crosshead 57 attached to the rear end of two cylinders 56 themselves slidable over outer pistons 51 secured to the rear of the shell. The plunger is initially forwarded by one piston and cylinder mechanism and then further forwarded by the other. The plunger comprises four separate outer sections which are spring biased outwardly to be a tight fit against the shell 1, a sealing additionally being provided. The opening to the filling chamber (13) is covered during the forward stroke by a member carried to the rear of the plunger. The plunger moreover carries a blade which co-operates with a fixed blade mounted at the front edge of said opening so that the material to be baled is sheered from the rest, a safety device being provided to stop the plunger, in the event of any excessive obstruction to the blade.
