Abstract

Cigarette-making machines.-Consists in improvements in machines of the kind wherein a continuously rotating disk 4 is provided with a number of filling-tubes 15, on the ends of which cigarette-paper tubes are threaded and a string of tobacco is introduced into the opposite end of a filling- tube 15 by means of a feed-tube 26 which rotates with the tube 15 during the filling operation and is afterwards returned rapidly to the next filling-tube 15. One feature of the invention consists in providing a supplementary feeding device for the string of tobacco comprising two grooved feed-rollers 37, 38 which enter openings in the wall of the tube 26 and embrace the tobacco from opposite sides. The rollers and feed-tube 26 are carried at one end of a lever 23 pivoted on a shaft 70, the other end of the lever 23 having a roller in contact with a cam 25 on the main drive shaft 5. The rollers 37, 38 are driven from a toothed wheel 42 on the shaft 70 through toothed wheels 39, 40, 41. The wheel 42 is driven from the shaft 5 at the same angular speed as the lever 23 at the springing-back of the supply tube 26 from a filling tube to the following one, with the object of stopping the turning action of the gearwheel 42 on the feed-roller during this return motion. Another feature of the invention consists in making the connexion between the stationary part 43 of the feedapparatus and the tube 26 by means of a movable tube or channel 44 built up of two telescoping sections pressed apart by a spring 45; the tube 44 is rounded at both ends and is inserted in socketlike recesses in the parts 26, 43. For removing the paper tubes filled with tobacco from the tubes 15, a rod or piston 46 movable into the tubes is provided, the reciprocating movement of which is effected by a lever 47 and camgrooved disk 48 secured to the shaft 5. The rod 46 is connected to the lever 47 by a ball-andsocket joint, while its other end slides in a sleeve in an arm 49 on the lever 23.
