Abstract

Material is sterilized by loading into a closed chamber, evacuating the chamber and, at the same time introducing steam, continuing the introduction of steam after evacuation and simultaneously introducing a gaseous sterilant requiring the presence of moisture for its activity, i.e ethylene oxide, propylene oxide or ethylene oxide/propylene oxide or ethylene oxide/inert gas mixtures until a predetermined pressure is reached, maintaining the pressure for a predetermined time and finally introducing sterile air.
