Abstract

1,054,220. Jigging apparatus. FLOATEX SEPARATIONS Ltd. June 3, 1965 [June 18, 1964], No. 25173/64. Heading B2H. A jig for beneficiating granular, or pulverulent materials comprises a hutch structure in which the hutch 21 is carried on a longitudinal lever frame 25 pivoted about a transverse horizontal axis 16 located beyond the hutch in the down stream direction and connected at its other end to a vertically reciprocating mechanism. This comprises a pitman 19 whose eccentric crank or sheave is driven via speed reduction belts and pulleys 24, Fig. 3a (not shown). Thus, since the transverse compartments of the hutch are each at a different mean distance from the fulcrum 16 of the frame 25, each has a different stroke when the motor 24 is operating, so that in effect each "proton" compartment acts independently. Also at the feed end 2a of the trough 2, the bed of material is subjected to a maximum pulsatory treatment whilst as separation and stratification takes place along the length of the screen the bed of material is less strongly pulsated. A light fraction collector 29 is provided at the discharge end of the screen 7, having a motor driven extractor screw. Heavy pulp is delivered to an outlet gate 38 which is adjustable by means of a hand crank and gears 39, Fig. 3b (not shown). Beneath the lip 28 of the collector channel 29 is a breast plate 41 below which is a baffle 42. A water jet from a pipe 45 is sprayed out of the space between the plate 41 and baffle 42 to oppose any tendency for light pulp and the water surface level A, Fig. 5 (not shown), to be entrained in the downward flow against the baffle. The discharged heavy fraction falls on to a sloping drainage grid 47 which removes the excess water via a shoot 5, the dewatered material being delivered via the heavy fraction shoot 6. In order to adjust the percentage of heavy material in the discharge 'light fraction', the hangers 8 for the screen 7 may be adjusted in length, the screen may be divided into sections, the ragging 27, Fig. 5 (not shown), in the compartments and the perforations in the screen may be varied in size, and the water flow in pipes 11 adjusted. Thereafter further control is effected by adjustment of the output gate 38. A water inlet provides water to lubricate the floor 35 of the machine. The machine is double-ended, and two double-ended machines may be placed side-byside and fed from a common central hopper with a common drive for their hutches.
