Abstract

1,053,504. Diagnostic composition for syphilis test. CHAS. PFIZER & CO. Inc. March 1, 1965 [March 17, 1964], No. 8731/65. Heading B1X. A diagnostic composition which gives an agglutination reaction with syphilitic blood serum comprises an aqueous suspension containing 0.1-3% of 0.3-2.0Á polystyrene particles coated with cardiolipin antigen, and 4-6% w/v of choline chloride. The antigen is derived from an ethanolic solution containing 0.03% cardiolipin, 0.9% cholestrol and 0.2% lecithin. The preferred medium is 0.85% saline containing 0.01% MgSO 4 . First the particles may be coated by mixing a suspension of latex in saline with said ethanolic solution, centrifuging, decanting off the supernatant liquid and resuspending the remaining particles in a solution of choline chloride.
