Abstract
1,050,070. Surgical drainage apparatus. HOLLISTER INCORPORATED. Sept. 24, 1965, No. 40866/65. Heading ASR. A ring 16 used to seal a colostomy &c. bag to a patient is made of a medicated gelatinous material comprising karaya powder mixed with glycerol. The ring is resilient, non-irritant, and may be coated on one face with a specified waterproofing material. As shown, the ring is fitted between t h e patient and the mouth 15 of a colostomy bag 18, 19 which is held on the patient by an elastic body belt. The ring may be provided with pressure sensitive adhesive on one face to secure it to the bag, and the material of the ring may also include aluminium hydroxide to neutralize acid and anti-bacterial compounds. The ring and the bag may comprise a prepacked unit, the ring being presented in the aluminium mould in which it is formed.
