Abstract

1,047,034. Laundry bags. REYNOLDS METALS CO. Aug. 2, 1963 [Aug. 28, 1962], No. 30806/63. Heading B8K. A laundry bag 1 has strips 3 which soften in cold water bonded between the edges 4 of its walls 2 which dissolve in hot water. The bottom of the bag is formed by heat-sealing or folding and the top is closed by drawing it together and tying with a tape of material which softens in cold water. Alternatively, the bag may be formed from a tube with transverse and longitudinal seams including cold water sensitive strips of material, or the bag may have all seams heat-sealed and a separate sheet of hot water soluble material bonded over an aperture in its wall with strips of cold water sensitive material interposed. The bag is preferably of polyvinyl alcohol film which may have a small glycerol content. In laundering the filled bag is placed in cold water to open it and allow the contents to be rinsed. Subsequently, hot water is introduced which dissolves the bag as the washing procedure is completed.
