Abstract

1,047,005. Bridges for stringed instruments. E. UNKEL, and H. UNKEL. Aug. 4, 1964 [Sept. 9, 1963], No. 31329/64. Heading G5J. The Figure shows a bridge for a horizontally strung piano. The upper surface of the bridge is inclined so that the string is out of the line between sounding abutments over sounding section S1. It is brought back into this line S3 by a screw-adjusted deflecting bar P3 so that the string has a slight S configuration. The Specification explains that this arrangement makes the amplitude of the string vibrations on either side of the rest positions the same with a consequent improvement in tone.
