Abstract

An insulating varnish comprises (i) a curable non-oil-modified polyester of one or more dibasic acids which include an aliphatic acid and a plurality of polyhydric alcohols which include a glycol and tris-(2-hydroxyethyl) isocyanurate and (ii) a curable alkylated aminotriazine-aldehyde resin. Numerous polyesterforming reactants are specified as are several resins, (ii) wherein the triazine is benzo-, formo-, aceto-, lauro-, stearo- or propo-guanamine, melamine or N-N-dimethyl melamine. Exemplary solvents include aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons, alcohols, glycol, glycol ethers and esters, ketones, N-methyl pyrrolodone, dimethyl formamide and tetrachloroethylene. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 961,624.ALSO:An insulating varnish comprises (i) a curable non-oil-modified polyester of one or more di-basic acids which include an aliphatic acid and a plurality of polyhydric alcohols which include a glycol and tris (2-hydroxyethyl) isocyanurate, and (ii) a curable alkylated aminotriazine-aldehyde resin (see Division C3). The varnish may be applied to a conductive wire enamelled with a phthalate polyester overcoated with a branched polyester, several suitable phthalate polyester and branched polyester compositions being described. In Examples copper wire is enamelled with 5 coats of phthalate polyester solutions according to Specification 978,717, overcoated with a branched polyester solution according to Specification 1,004,556 and then varnished with the varnish of the invention by double dipping and baking at 400 DEG F. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 961,624.
