Apparatus suitable for printing on bales, slips &c. comprises a printing bed 37 having a surface 37a adapted to support a relief printing plate such as a credit card c, an impression roller 34 mounted on a central shaft provided at its ends with roller bearings, Fig. 3 (not shown), a pair of guide plates such as 41, 43 for guiding each roller bearing in a printing path parallel to the surface 37a, and guide plates such as 41, 42, 43 for guiding each bearing in a return tripped path spaced laterally from the printing path. The apparatus includes a flange such as 51 to guide each roller bearing outwardly from the end of the printing stroke to the start of the return stroke, a flange such as 53 to guide each bearing inwardly from the end of the return stroke to the start of the printing stroke, and actuating means including a yoke 30-32 which engages the ends of the roller shaft and moves the roller through the printing cycle under the control of a motor 21. In operation a sales form F is inserted, and a button 58 is depressed until a lever arm 26 moves to close a detector switch 56 and maintain the motor energized so that the arm 26, via a shaft 22, a crank 22a and a slide 23, moves the roller through a complete cycle. The printing pressure may be adjusted by raising or lowering each plate such as 43 within a slotted guide. A date wheel, Fig. 3 (not shown), may be provided additionally to print on the form F during the cycle. Inking apparatus.-The platen roller may be replaced by an ink-impregnated roller.
