Abstract
1,041,394. Respiratory masks. MARTINDALE ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Sept. 4,1964 [Sept. 5, 1963;July 24, 1964], Nos. 35147/63 and 29781/64. Heading A5T. [Also in Division B1] A filter pad, suitable for a face mask comprising a plate having a nose recess, mouth aperture and head strap, comprises a layer 5 of cotton wool, medical gauze or resinated merino wool, enclosed between two sheets of flexible polyurethane foam 6, 7 which are welded or adhered together round the edge of the pad (Fig. 8). In manufacture sheet 7 and layer 5 are assembled in a frame and held by pins, and sheet 6 is then welded to sheet 7 by a knife which trims the sheets and welds them at the same time. The knife may be heated electrically or the sheets may weld by pressure alone. Alternatively, cutting and welding may be separate steps.
