Abstract

1, 040, 425. Tracheotomy tubes. R. PESTY. Dec. 24, 1963 [Dec. 26, 1962; Dec. 14, 1963], No. 50852/63. Heading A5R. A tracheotomy tube comprises parallel air conduits 11, 9 for supplying air for breathing and assisting speech respectively, a deflecting skirt 6<SP>1</SP> of resilient flexible material being arranged on the breathing air conduit 11 to direct air emerging through orifices 6 from the other conduit 9 towards the patient's vocal cords. The inner end of a tracheotomy tube is surrounded by a bag 3 which is inflatable through a third conduit 5 to seal the tube against the trachea. A U-shaped baffle 6 3 (Fig. 5a not shown) may be disposed within the skirt to deflect air passing to the skirt through two openings 64, 65 into several streams. Projections 8 on the tracheotomy tube keep the skirt away from the trachea wall.
