Abstract

Monitoring apparatus comprising two user communications devices (2,3), at least one of which is capable of communication over a radio cellular network, one device is a client (display) device (3) and another device is a server (capture) device (2), and the devices configured to communicate, over a local area network (Bluetooth (RTM) or WiFi) communication link (20), a data flow of audio and/or visual information sensed by the server device to the client device, and the devices configured to establish the communication link by way of a predetermined connection procedure.Aspects of the invention include the client device storing in its memory the IP address of the server device. Using the stored IP address the client device will start with the address and if unsuccessful will attempt the next successive (incremental) IP address until a successful address is reached. The server device may be located e.g. by a child or infant's bed.
