Abstract
Description
PROTECTIVE PANEL FOR FASTENING ON A PART OF THE BODY OF A MOTOR VEHICLE. The present invention relates to a protective panel for a bodywork part of a motor vehicle, obtained by injection molding plastic into a mold and its manufacturing process. The side doors of motor vehicles are often equipped with protective rods that are supposed to protect these doors against small urban shocks, such as side door shocks, and caddies. Due to their small width, these rods have a protection function which is very small. Some vehicles are equipped with side bands having a large width. These bands are rigid plastic and therefore do not have the ability to deform under the effect of a small urban shock. As a result, impact energy in case of impact of a supermarket trolley or post shock is transmitted integrally to the door. These bands have at most the advantage that in case of scratches, they avoid having to repaint the entire door or wing of the vehicle. To improve this type of protection, it has been proposed to make a plastic protective panel intended to be fixed on a part of the bodywork of a motor vehicle, comprising a rigid plastic wall and a flexible plastic wall, both of these walls being in contact with one another in zones which surround zones in which these two walls are spaced from one another, and which define between them cells which are filled with air delimited by a tight connection. Thus, the areas in which the flexible plastic wall is spaced from the rigid plastic wall are filled with air and are deformable in case of urban type shock. During such an impact, the flexible wall is close to the rigid wall, without being damaged or even scuffed. Such a panel therefore has a more interesting protection capacity. Such a protective panel is attached to the vehicle. The material constituting the flexible panel can be stained in the mass to give it a desired color appearance. Indeed, such a panel can not be painted to the extent that the flexible skin is deformable while a paint affixed to it would not have the desired elastic characteristics. A possibility other than painting is to coat automotive body parts with films replacing the traditional paint layer. We can thus propose a greater diversity of decorations. Conventionally, a suitably prepared film is positioned in a mold, and the plastic material constituting the bodywork part is injected for overmolding. Thus, EP0266107 discloses a bodywork part made of molded plastic material covered with a decorative film. The piece is made by placing the decorative film in the mold and then injecting the polymer material. The adhesion between the inner surface of the film and the molded material can be achieved by an adhesive interlayer present on the inner surface of the film. Optionally, a corona treatment can be performed to optimize the adhesion between the film and the molded part. In FR 2 815 000, there is provided a bodywork part obtained by injecting plastic material into a mold, comprising a part decorated by a film. The film has textured areas on its visible face facing the outside of the room and which are in the right of regions of invisible face turned towards the interior of the room in which the film has been damaged. Thanks to these textured areas, it is possible to hide the damaged parts on the invisible side of the film. Therefore, the aesthetic effect conferred by its areas derives from their functional effects.
The present invention proposes a protective panel for a motor vehicle body part having a surface effect and its manufacturing process. For this purpose, the subject of the invention is a protective plastic panel intended to be fixed on a part of the bodywork of a motor vehicle, comprising a rigid plastic wall and a flexible plastic wall, both walls being in contact with one another in zones which surround at least one zone in which these two walls are spaced from one another, characterized in that the flexible wall has on its outer face a decorative film plastic, whose outer face is smooth and the inner face is provided with reliefs conferring a transparent surface effect to the flexible wall thus coated. Thus, advantageously, the surface of the flexible panel can be imparted with a surface effect such as a carbon effect and in a simple manner. Preferably, this surface effect is obtained by using a plastic film whose inner face has undergone a graining operation. Preferably, a plastic film is used such as thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPU), polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA). Such a plastic material is chosen in particular for its mechanical and thermal properties which allow it a high resistance to scratching, a great cleanability and its ability to withstand a great variability of the external climatic conditions.
Preferably, such a film has a thickness of the order of 0.3 mm. Such fineness allows after molding of the panel to retain the flexibility of the outer flexible wall, especially at spaced areas of the walls forming air-filled cells delimited by a sealed connection and deformable under the effect of a shock. These cells preferably comprise a vent formed in the rigid wall at the level of each cell, this vent being sized so as not to allow air to escape in the event of impact or rapid force on the cell while allowing an escape and an air inlet during variation of internal pressure in the cell under the effect of thermal variations. The film can be transparent and contain anti-UV agents, it can be tinted translucent or opaque in solid color or metallized. The invention also relates to a method of manufacturing the flexible wall of the panel in which, in an open mold, a plastic film is placed which has a smooth face and a face provided with connections, preferably having a thickness of 0. , 3 mm, its smooth face against the die of the mold, the film being held in the area of the joint plane of the mold which is then closed, the plastic material constituting the flexible wall such as TPU is then injected into the mold and under the effect of the injection pressure, the film being pressed against the die of the mold. The flexible wall is then assembled to the rigid wall to form the protection panel. The invention will now be described in more detail with reference to the drawing in which: FIG. 1 represents a sectional view of a flexible wall of a protection panel. FIGS. 2a, 2b and 2c schematically represent different manufacturing steps. The invention therefore relates to a protective panel which comprises a rigid plastic wall and a flexible plastic wall 1 which are in contact with one another in zones which surround at least one zone in which these two walls are spaced apart. one from the other.
As can be seen in Figure 1, this flexible wall 1 has on its outer surface a film 2 of plastic. This film 2 may have different aspects giving the flexible wall 1 a specific appearance. In particular, this film 2 is used to give the flexible wall 1 a particular surface appearance without the surface of said flexible wall 1 itself needing to be treated. Thus, this film 2 has a smooth outer face 2a while its inner face 2b is provided with reliefs that provide a transparent surface effect to the flexible wall 1 thus coated. In order to create these reliefs on the surface, such a film 2 is grained by wheel over its entire width during calendering. The film 2 once put in place on the flexible wall 1 must have its smooth face 2a outside while its grained face 2b is inner side in contact with the plastic of the flexible wall 1. Also, to obtain such a flexible wall 1, an injection is made by overmolding. Thus, in an open mold 1, is placed in place the plastic film 2 which preferably has a thickness of 0.3 mm, its smooth face 2a against the matrix la. The film 2 is held in the area of the joint plane of the mold 1 which is then closed. The plastic material constituting the flexible wall 1 such as TPU is then injected into the mold and under the effect of the injection pressure the film 2 is pressed against the die 1a of the mold.
The graining being present on the face 2b of the film 2 which is found internally, remains the same regardless of the area. The outer skin 2b remains smooth and can be treated to be shiny or matte.
The graining may have many different designs and as such, many effects are possible. It is also advantageously with the same smooth mold, use films with different grains thus allowing different effects without tool change. The graining can be replaced by relief patterns (for example chevrons). Other effects are possible, combining smooth areas with grainy areas, playing on transparency and colors.
The flexible wall thus formed is then assembled on the rigid wall to form the protection panel according to the invention.
