 CONSOLE FOR FIXING LANTERNS TO CANDELABRE The invention relates to the technical sector of lighting equipment in urban areas in particular, and in particular to candelabras or masts allowing the positioning of lighting fixtures.

Candelabra or tall masts are generally made of steel, concrete or aluminum, in cylindrical or troncocylindrical sections and are of great height. Some can go up to 20 to 25 meters depending on the uses.

The candelabra or mast receives at a desired height a support bracket for a lighting means. This bracket can have various configurations depending on the lighting means worn, the aesthetics that are used to decorate the area or place lit, garden, street or other.

To allow the positioning of the lighting means and the associated bracket (s) on the candelabra, it is necessary to use a support console which is intended to be fixed at a determined height on the mast.

According to a first embodiment of the prior art exploited by the Applicant in particular, represented figured, this console is in the form of a ring engaging on the mat, the mat being arranged with radial openings for the engagement of fixing pins or inserts through the ring through specific openings. If the implementation appears simple at first sight, it should nevertheless be specified that it is necessary to pierce the mat in certain places, which is not always practical to carry out in the mast production line. In addition, the holes define the positioning height of the console, and any modification to the console may result in the need to make other holes.

Also known from the patent PETITJEAN FR 2 778 213, another embodiment of the console shown in Figure 2, which includes a shell in two parts surrounding the mast and connected to each other by clamping spacers. A shell of this nature is molded from aluminum for example and the manufacturing cost remains high. Two molds are indeed necessary for the realization of the two half parts which are not identical, but complementary in shape. In addition, the adjustment of the balance remains delicate.

If the consoles according to the prior art mentioned above are used, they nevertheless offer constraints of cost, assembly, installation and adjustment of balance.

The Applicant's approach was to think about a new design of the console which is of lower cost, which is easy to mount on the mast, adjustable in position easily by the operator for the control of the balance.

Another object sought after according to the invention was to design a new console which can be effectively positioned with firm clamping on the mast while overcoming the constraints of the external shape of the console. In other words, it was a question of designing a console which could present externally all visible forms contributing to the esthetics of this one, but while ensuring a fixing and tightening required.

Another aim sought after according to the invention was to design a console allowing an easy adjustment of its plumbness and the altitude by the operator when this one is on a nacelle or other, the mast being vertical.

Another aim sought after according to the invention was to design a console which can be mounted to replace existing consoles, without entailing significant investment costs for communities, during urban developments.

 This mat is capable of allowing the positioning of a console (2) arranged to receive one or more arms forming gallows (3) and whose ends are arranged to receive in known manner one or more lighting means (4) of the type and of any shape.

Said console is itself made of all materials, steel, aluminum, plastics and the like, the whole being that the material chosen is able to meet the demands of stresses with regard to the constraints of the cantilever of the arms supporting the elements lighting and outdoor environment conditions.

According to the invention, the console is produced in the form of a one-piece body (2a) arranged internally with a cylindrical through bore (2b), in order to allow positioning and centering on the mast. The diameter (dal) of the bore (2b) is therefore substantially greater than the diameter (D2) of the mast, in the zone (Z) for fixing the console to the mast.

The height of the body (2a) is variable according to the applications and uses. The body (2a) is thus arranged internally to receive in its bore (2b) one or two inner rings (5) cylindrical, U-shaped, forming and constituting the inner housing (5a) established throughout the inner periphery. The said ring or rings (5) are arranged in number, as a function of the height (H) of the body and of the use on the mat. Each ring is fixed transversely in the bore of the body by weld bead (6) or otherwise. Or the rings are integral with the body, regardless of the connecting means used. The interior housing (5a) is therefore established over the entire interior periphery of the body. The opening face (5c) of the ring is oriented towards the inside of the bore.

 The inner ring or rings arranged in one or more places of the body at different levels are capable of receiving sets with profiled jaws (7) and for example, three jaws (7a, 7b, 7c). These jaws are also U-shaped to allow in the inner ring or rings, their positioning and the reception of additional means.

These jaws have a profile in a curvilinear sector, to take account of the cylindrical configuration of the ring or rings. Each of these jaws is associated with connection and thrust means (8) which are in fact hexagon socket head screws. The screws pass through tapped holes (2c) in the body and (5d) in the ring and open into the jaw housing area. These screws using keys known under the name Allen have ends integral with the corresponding jaws. Thus, any operation on the adjustment screws will cause the radial displacement of the jaws by expansion or withdrawal, by modifying the interior opening zone of the body.

In a particular way, the jaws are themselves profiled on their visible inner face (7d), with a grooving (9) circular or other, allowing the positioning and centering of a cylindrical rod (10) split, to elastic deformation capacity. These remain held in the inner ring, but then protrude externally from them, reducing the space relative to the mat. In a situation of maximum displacement, the jaws come into abutment against each other, defining a circle of diameter and circumference less than that of the inner ring.

The cylindrical rod exhibits maximum elastic deformation when the jaws are fully tightened. The ring is in the groove (9) of the jaws in a situation of maximum compression.

The movement of the jaws depends on the diameter of the mat, at the place of installation.

It should be noted that preferably, each inner ring can receive three jaws established for example on the angular sectors from 100 to 110. Also, the visible face (7d) of the jaws is tapered from top to bottom to ensure a better clamping effect.

According to an important provision of the invention, the external shape of the brackets can be arbitrary, cylindrical, spherical, as shown in the figures of the drawings without limitation. Alternatively, it may have one or more straight faces (11) to allow the positioning of tapped holes (12)

 or other means for engaging and attaching flag supports, speaker supports, watering supports and the like.

It should of course be specified that the console is arranged in a known manner with one or more openings (13) for the passage and fixing of the brackets or the like, as well as with a clearance recess (14) for the passage of the cables .

The console according to the invention has many advantages. First of all, we emphasize its simple and inexpensive manufacturing. Mounting the console on the mast is easy and can even be done on the floor. When the mast is positioned vertically, the operator can also adjust the console position easily. It suffices for the latter to act by screwing on the various screws to ensure successive adjustments of opening or closing of the jaws.

A different adjustment of the jaws makes it possible to make all the necessary corrections for the balance. Each jaw is advantageously adjusted by two positioning screws.

The external shape of the jaws of the consoles can vary without modifying the function and the clamping conditions on the mast. There is no need to drill masts and the height adjustment of the console, according to a wide amplitude, on the mast is easy. We then keep the initial aspect of the mat, which was not the case before.

Another advantage lies in adapting the height of the console, with one or more tightening zones as appropriate. It should also be noted that the invention is applicable, whatever the external shape of the mat. This can be cylindrical, tronco-cylindrical, ovoid or polygonal.

 In the hypothesis of candelabras or masts using tie rods between the arms, a single set of jaws may suffice.

Also note that the console body can be machined, but also molded. It is in the form of a single piece, and there is no need to have other connecting elements, as is recalled according to the prior art. The body can be made of a thermosetting plastic material or resin, while meeting the requirements and criteria of strength.

The realization of the interior shapes of the console from the same technical concept of installation, can also be an advantage compared to the prior art, by allowing games of different shape.
