Abstract

The grinding machine, consisting of a grinding wheel (1) on a carrier (2) that can be moved in a supporting frame between positions in contact with or separated from a workpiece such as a rail (6), has a grinding wheel position monitor incorporating a spark detector and light sensor, with signals transmitted between them via an optical fibre. The position monitor has a duct in the form of a tapering channel through a block, preferably of aluminum, and a transparent window.
