Abstract

The device has two parallel metallic bars (1, 2) in the form of a parabolic arc, transversal bars (3, 5) used as steps for climbing in top of the device, and a foot catching transversal bar (7). A fabric (10) for supporting the legs during an elongation is fixed on the bar (7) and a suspension bar (11) which supports the body during the elongation. Description

Passivo-active elongation arch of the spine

  The present invention is a product belonging to the paramedical sector.

  This is a device specifically designed for people who suffer from back pain. This pathology is also known by other names: low back pain, back pain, neck pain, buttock pain etc. The name of the disease indicates the part of the body affected.

  The cause of the pain is usually at the level of the vertebral column (except visceral or other condition). This is an abnormality that occurs in the joints of the vertebrae, intervertebral discs and nerves.

  The origin of the anomaly can be: inflammatory, mechanical, degenerative, etc. In all cases the pain is transmitted by the nerve which is compressed.

  The basic treatments are: anti-inflammatories and analgesics, infiltrations, massage, physiotherapy, etc. The vascularization in the spine is weak and the drugs that arrive through the blood must be powerful to relieve the pain. Sometimes these medications are poorly supported.

  Immediate infiltrations undoubtedly relieve, but in the long term they can be harmful because of the presence of deposits in the joint at the end of the treatment. Moreover, such acts can only be done by a specialist.

  As far as massage is concerned, it relieves pain, as long as it is practiced by a person who is well versed in the diagnosis and has a perfect command of the anatomy and physiology of the spine.

  Treatments by the passive-active elongation device of this invention naturally find their place in the care provided by physiotherapy.

  Physiotherapy plays an important role in the treatment of back pain. It is indicated on the one hand after the acute phase of the disease and on the other hand in a more general way in the maintenance of the health of the spine.

  In varying degrees, according to the cause of the disease, recurrences in affections of the spine are quite frequent, the disease may even become chronic. In this case a healthy lifestyle and maintenance followed by the spine are required. It is in this spirit that I designed an elongation device that decompresses the intervertebral discs, releasing the nerves whose pinching was the source of pain.

  The accompanying drawings illustrate the invention.

  Figure 1 is a schematic view in section section of the elongation device and the positioning of the body during the elongation exercise. In this drawing it can be seen that the elongation device makes it possible to select the positioning of the body in order to obtain the greatest possible efficiency in the spinal column, taking into account the body's anatomy and ergonomics. .

  The body sits on a downward curving slope with the head down. This is a position totally opposed to verticality, the force of gravitation is used to relax the spine.

  The weight of the head being the most important weight of the skeleton accentuates the elongation.

  The curved shape of the slope facilitates the opening of the vertebrae. Taking into account the anatomy of the vertebrae the articular processes are outside the spine, consequence the mechanism of opening is accentuated.

  I called passive elongation this elongation which mainly uses gravitation, compared to the active elongation that uses in addition to stretching.

  Active elongation is done with the arms. The elongation device is provided with bars perpendicular to the arms. The purpose of pulling with the arms is to stretch the spine for better elongation. As a result, the intervertebral spaces are decompressed once more.

  Figure 2 shows a schematic overall view of the elongation device with all respective components.

  With reference to these drawings the device comprises: two parallel metallic bars (1, 2) curved in the upper part, 8 transverse bars (3, 5, 7, 11, 16, 17, 18, 19), a fabric ( 10) which supports the legs and - a support surface (15).

  The two parallel bars have the parabolic bow shape with the opening down.

  Crossbars are installed at several levels of the device and the recessing makes it more stable.

  Each crossbar has its usefulness in the elongation exercise.

  According to one characteristic, the first two transverse bars (3,5) are used as a step to mount at the top of the device.

  According to one feature the crossbar hooks feet (7) located higher on the rising slope, has two main functions: -it is the point of attachment of the feet. This bar (7) is surrounded by a foam roller (8) to soften the contact with the joints.

  - It is the low point of fixation of the fabric (10) which supports the legs.

  According to one feature the fabric (10) has the role of supporting the legs during elongation. The lower end of the fabric is rolled up and down around the bar hooks feet (7).   Figure 3 illustrates a perpendicular view of the fabric (10) characterized by the fastening strips (9) to the hook bar feet (7) and the hem (13) for attachment to the suspension bar (11). 10

  According to one feature the suspension bar (11) has the role of: supporting the body during the elongation exercise and it is the high point of fixation of the fabric (10). It can be installed in the highest point of the arc (1 Ibis).

  The upper part of the fabric (10) is fixed on the suspension bar (11) by a hem (13).

  The suspension of the body is at the level of the coxofemoral joint. For added comfort a foam roller (12) surrounds the bar (11).

  According to one feature a curved surface (15) is installed on the downward slope between the suspension bar (11) and the intermediate bar (16). This curved surface (15) partially supports the body by reassuring the person, the feeling of being suspended in the void being attenuated.

  The fact that the surface is curved allows the opening at the epiphyses of the spine.

  The material used for the manufacture of this surface (15) may be slatwood or another substitute product.

  According to one characteristic, the elongation device is provided with three traction bars (17, 18, 19), active elongation bars situated at the bottom of the device on the downward slope. The drawbars are arranged at different levels. The person doing the elongation chooses the bar that suits him in relation to his height.

  In order not to be hindered at the level of the wrists, the traction bars are offset with respect to the median axis of the parallel bars (1, 2) coming down.

  Figure 4a and b are schematic views of the placement of the drawbars (17,18,19).

  The upper drawbar (17) is arranged inside with respect to the two parallel bars (1,2).

  The middle drawbar (18) is arranged in the middle between the two bars (1, 2).

  The lower bar (19) is arranged outside with respect to the two main bars (1, 2).

  A reinforcing bar (6) is installed at the bottom of the elongation device between the bar (3) and the median pull bar (18). The fixing points (A, B) of the reinforcing bar (6) are placed perpendicularly in the middle of these two bars (3 and 18).

  For safety reasons a fastening device (4) is installed at ground level. The safety binding (4) is obligatory because of the imbalance of the weight of the body during the suspension. Figure 5 illustrates the attachment point (4) of the device.

  By way of nonlimiting example, the height of the elongation device will have a dimension of about 130 cm and the width of 100 cm. The space between the two main bars (1, 2) is 60 cm.

  It should be noted that the invention is not strictly limited to the embodiment which has just been described and that it is only to illustrate in the form of example the principle of the invention.

Device for elongation of the spine characterized in that it comprises two parallel bars (1, 2) parabolic arc-shaped, two bars (3, 5), a bar hooks feet (7), a bar for suspending the body (11), a fabric (10) supporting the legs a body-supporting surface (15), three pull-up bars (17, 18, 19) and foam rollers (8, 12, 20) for the comfort of the user.   2.
