Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a method for applying the skin to an aqueous cosmetic composition, as well as to a method for conditioning the said composition, which is intended to be applied in accordance with the said method for applying the skin. More specifically, the invention applies to the diffusion in the skin of the active principles contained in a cosmetic composition, via carbon dioxide.
The beneficial effects of carbon dioxide on human skin tissue have been known for a long time. Studies, including one published in the journal "American
Heart Journal "in an article by I. Stein and I. Weinstein (New York, NY) on carbon dioxide baths, aqueous baths using the chemical reaction between an acid and a sodium carbonate, highlighted the action of this gas on the cutaneous blood vessels. Carbon dioxide activates the blood micro-circulation on the surface of the skin by dilating the walls of the blood vessels, by centripetal diffusion effect. The activation of the blood micro-circulation observed improves the effectiveness of these active ingredients, and since carbon dioxide is inert at atmospheric pressure, it does not cause intolerance.
Attempts have been made to use the aforementioned properties of carbon dioxide to improve the centripetal flow of the active ingredients present in cosmetic compositions. However, it has appeared that a cosmetic composition into which carbon dioxide is introduced is not stable, which makes its use prohibitive.
An object of the invention is to provide a method for applying the skin to an aqueous cosmetic composition, as well as a method for conditioning the said composition, intended to be applied in accordance with the said method for applying the skin, which make it possible to take advantage of centripetal effects of carbon dioxide to increase the effectiveness of the active ingredients contained in said composition.
To this end, a process for the cutaneous application of an aqueous cosmetic composition according to the invention is such that it consists in triggering a carbon dioxide release reaction at the time and at the place of application of said composition.
This process makes it possible to improve the penetration and the diffusion in the skin of the active principles contained in said composition, by means of carbon dioxide produced during the mixing of said reagents.
Preferably, to trigger said reaction, two reactants are reacted, included respectively in a first and a second part of said composition.
Preferably, said reagents are respectively an acid and a sodium carbonate.
Advantageously, said acid is present in excess in said composition.
According to another characteristic of the invention, a method of packaging a cosmetic composition, intended to be applied in accordance with the aforementioned method, is such that it consists in accommodating said first and second parts of the composition in two compartments provided for inside a container.
In this case, the carbon dioxide evolution reaction takes place only when the reagents included in said first and second parts of said composition are applied simultaneously to the skin.
Preferably, the outlets of said compartments are located at the outlet of said container.
Advantageously, said packaging method consists in housing said first and second parts of said composition inside separate containers.
In this case, the carbon dioxide evolution reaction only takes place when the reagents are applied successively to the skin.
The characteristics of the invention mentioned above, as well as others, will appear more clearly on reading the following description of an exemplary embodiment, said description being made in relation to the attached drawing, in which:
Fig. a single is a schematic view in longitudinal section of a container allowing the methods according to the invention to be implemented.
The container 1 shown in FIG. unique contains an aqueous cosmetic composition. It comprises a longitudinal watertight partition 2 intended to isolate two parts 3 and 4 of said composition, respectively including two reagents provided for releasing carbon dioxide when they interact in an aqueous medium. These reagents consist respectively of an acid, preferably a weak acid, and of a sodium carbonate. Said container 1 is closed by a plug or cover 5.
According to a preferred embodiment, the weak acid chosen is a hydroxy acid present in excess in said composition, such as hydroxy -2 propanoic acid or lactic acid, tartaric acid, citric acid or even malic acid. . The sodium carbonate used can be bicarbonate, for example.
Due to the presence of the partition 2 isolating the acid from the carbonate in the container 1, the migration of the ions of each reagent, in particular of the proton from the acid and from the hydrogen carbonate anion from the carbonate, is made impossible.
On the other hand, when the aqueous cosmetic composition is extracted from the container 1 to be applied to the patient's skin, said parts 3 and 4 mix and the reagents which they contain respectively react according to the following chemical reaction:
It can be seen that it is accompanied by the release of carbon dioxide in an aqueous medium, the product of the reaction between the ions contained in the acid and the carbonate.
The skin application process of an aqueous composition according to the invention is such that carbon dioxide, produced only in contact with the skin, diffuses integrally through the epidermal, dermal and hypodermic layers by micro-circulation, bringing with it the active ingredients present in said composition. The centripetal flow of these active ingredients is therefore increased. Furthermore,
The water produced by the chemical reaction hydrates the surface of the skin.
The method of packaging a cosmetic composition intended to be applied in accordance with the skin application method according to the invention has the advantage of preventing any release of this gas when the container 1 containing the cosmetic composition is opened for the first time, and after the first skin application. In addition, such a container 1 is of a simple structure.
It is understood that the packaging method according to the invention extends to other modes of isolation of the two parts 3 and 4 of the cosmetic composition, so that the abovementioned chemical reaction only takes place during their skin application. In particular, such a process could consist in housing each part 3, 4 of said composition containing said reagents respectively in two separate containers or tubes, so that carbon dioxide is produced only during the successive application of said parts 3 and 4 on contact with the skin.
It will be understood that the skin application process of an aqueous cosmetic composition according to the invention consists, in general, of providing any means making it possible to trigger said reaction at the time and at the place of application of said composition. In particular, two separate containers could be provided for this purpose, respectively containing a first non-aqueous composition consisting of said reagents, and any second aqueous composition.
