Abstract

The system includes a portable wireless telephone (3) which interfaces with a satellite communications system (1). The satellite system provides information on the geographic location in terms of latitude and longitude of the portable telephone. Manual or automatic switching (4) can be initiated to raise the alarm. The number which has to be accessed is dialled through the interface (2) and verified by the system. The alarm signal is then passed to an emergency response centre.

Description

The present invention relates to a system for transmitting an urgent call by wireless telephone indicating the geographical position of the transmitter given by a satellite tracking system, for example the GPS system. This system, the only one currently operational, makes it possible to locate any object wherever it is located with an accuracy of less than 100 meters.

Several versions of the system are available. Boaters use it to know their position thanks to a digital display of the data on the device. A third party can be informed of the position of the object, but in this case, it is the infrastructure of the organization which manages the transmission, which implies a cost reserving this version for exceptional use (Argos beacon) or to businesses (positioning of RATP buses).

A version with reduced dimensions informs the user of his position on a laptop. In addition, the Euteltracs system intended for road transporters enables localization using the Eutelsat satellite, communication by radio messaging between the vehicle and his company and the sending by the driver of an alert message in the event of an emergency.

There is therefore currently no portable system intended for individuals allowing them in an emergency to automatically call the emergency service (s) giving the exact geographical position. Today, mobile telephony from land stations covers almost the entire territory, with the exception of the high mountains.

This system is intended for people moving by their own means (nature walkers) or by vehicle and wanting to be assured of a rapid intervention by the competent services in the event of an incident or accident.

The call system according to the invention is characterized in that it comprises a geographic location system operating on the basis of information coming from several satellites transmitting the coordinates (latitude and longitude) of the place to a system interfaced with a telephone without wire incorporating the following features:
- Programming
- Storage in digital form
- Interfacing with a signal proportional to positive or negative acceleration
of the movement undergone by the system to trigger an automatic call
- Interfacing with an external signal to trigger an automatic call
- Interfacing with manual call control
- Coding in digital form of the microphone signal
- Decoding of this signal for application in voice form on the telephone
- Transcoding the signal from the geographic location system to
voice application on the phone
- Detection of the possibility of communicating with a correspondent
- Automatic dialing from digital information
- Switching according to three operating modes: Normal, Urgent,
Programming
FIG. 1 of the appended drawing represents a geographic location system (1), a system (2) integrating the functionalities described above, a manual call control (3), a cordless telephone (4).

L'utilisateur a trois possibilités d'utilisation
The user has three possibilities of use
1 - Programming: recording of the telephone number (s) to dial
and the message (s) to be transmitted in the event of an emergency.

2 - Urgent: automatic dialing of telephone number (s) and
transmission of the message (s) and the coordinates of the place.

3 - Normal : Utilisation normale du téléphone. 3 - Normal: Normal use of the telephone.

After programming, the operation in Urgent mode is as follows periodically the call system acquires the coordinates transmitted by the location system and refreshes a memory zone reserved for this function so as to keep the most recent data. The call can be triggered manually or automatically, either by a signal detecting a shock due to a collision or a fall, or by an external signal. The call system dials the telephone number, verifies that communication can be established with the correspondent and transmits the message and the coordinates of the place. When the transmission is finished, the call system automatically switches to normal mode so that a dialogue can possibly be established if the user has the possibility. If the user has programmed several numbers to call, the previous operation will be repeated as many times as necessary.
