Description

ANCHORED CUP FOR TOTAL HIP PROSTHESIS
The present invention relates to an anchored cup for total hip prosthesis of the non-cemented and non-screwed type, comprising, on the one hand, an outer cap made of a biocompatible metal such as stainless steel or a titanium alloy or the like, provided at least one radial fixing lug provided with perforations for the passage of screws and whose spherical wall has a plurality of holes for the passage of fixing screws and, on the other hand, an inner cap made of a softer material than metal, such as a biocompatible plastic, such as a high density polyethylene.

The major difficulty encountered with these cups is the elimination or, at least, the reduction of the risks of dislocation. The present invention aims precisely to achieve this goal. To this end, in the prosthesis which it relates to and which is of the aforementioned type, on the one hand, the inner cap, which is engaged hard in the outer cap, has along its upper and posterior edge and on a sector d '' at least 1800, an extension forming an antiluxation awning and, on the other hand, an annular segment bordering the opening of the inner cap is provided, on its external face with facets giving it a polygonal contour while the corresponding annular segment of the outer shell has, on its inner face, the same number of facets giving it the same polygonal outline.

This arrangement makes it possible to orient the inner cap at will relative to the outer cap and thus gives the practitioner who places this prosthesis or corrects it, to orient the antiluxation canopy of the inner cap in the direction most conducive to avoiding dislocation.

According to another characteristic of the invention aimed at providing this cup with better stability, the metal outer cap is equipped with two radial fixing lugs, diametrically opposite, one of which, lower, in the form of a hook, can be engaged on the lower edge of the acetabulum and the other, upper in the shape of a racket, has four perforations arranged in a cross allowing the placement of four fixing screws.

According to yet another characteristic of the invention aimed at improving the holding of this cup in the acetabulum of the patient, in addition to the perforations for the passage of fixing screws, the outer metal cap has perforations for cylindroconical pawns ringed externally and internally threaded .

Anyway, the invention will be clearly understood, with the aid of the description which follows, with reference to the appended schematic drawing representing, by way of nonlimiting example, an embodiment of this cup.
Figure 1 is a front view in elevation
Figure 2 is a sectional view along II-II of Figure 1.

As the drawing shows, this cup, which is of the non-screwed and unsealed type, comprises an outer cap 2 substantially hemipheric, made of biocompatible metal, inside which is housed an inner cap 3 made of a softer material than the metal, and in particular a biocompatible plastic material such as a high density polyethylene.

A metal which is perfectly suitable for constituting the outer cap 2 is stainless steel or a titanium alloy.

As shown in the drawing, the inner cap 3, which is intended to be engaged hard in the outer cap 2 has, along its upper and posterior edge and over an area of at least 1800, an extension 3a forming an anti-luxation canopy . In addition, the annular segment bordering the opening of the inner cap 3 is provided, on its outer face, with facets 3b giving it a polygonal contour, while the corresponding annular segment of the outer cap 2 has, on its inner face, the same number of facets 2b giving it the same polygonal outline.

As is easily understood, this arrangement allows the practitioner who performs the fitting of this prosthesis or its correction, to orient the anti-dislocation canopy 3a in the direction most conducive to avoiding dislocation.

To allow a suitable choice of the angular orientation of the anti-luxation awning 3a of the inner cap 3, the number of facets 2b and 3b of the polygonal contours of the above-mentioned annular segments of the outer cap 2 and of the inner cap 3 is advantageously twelve.

According to another characteristic of the invention aimed at improving the stability of this cup, in addition to the perforations 4 provided in the spherical wall of the outer cap 2 for the passage of fixing screws 5 implanted in the acetabulum of the patient, this outer cap 2 is equipped with two diametrically opposite radial lugs, respectively an upper lug 6 in the form of a racket and a lower lug 7 in the form of a hook which can be engaged on the lower edge of the acetabulum.

The upper radial tab 6 in the form of a racket has four perforations 6a arranged in a cross for the passage of fixing screws, while the lower radial tab 7 in the form of a hook has a single perforation 7a for the passage of a fixing screw.

According to yet another characteristic aimed at improving the stability of this cup in the acetabulum of the patient, in addition to the perforations 4 provided in the spherical wall of the outer metal cap 2 for the passage of fixing screws 5, other perforations 8 are provided. , two in this example, for the passage of cylindrical-conical pins 9 externally annealed and internally threaded. The internal threading of these pins 9 is intended to allow the practitioner to put them in place and remove them if necessary.
