Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a profile constituting a fractionation joint for a floor or wall covering, of the tiling, stone, shale, etc. type applied by sealing.
We know that the coverings of tiles, stone, etc ..., applied by sealing on a floor or a wall, are the subject of frequent disorders such as cracks, detachments and uplifts.
To overcome these drawbacks, it is common practice to create dividing joints in a large surface covering to subdivide it into small modules separated from each other by these dividing joints. To form these seals, flat profiles made of rigid plastic or metal are usually used which delimit restricted surfaces. Such a fractionation joint, if it gives all satisfaction when the coating shrinks, is however ineffective when it expands or when its support bends.
The present invention aims to remedy these disadvantages 9 by providing a profile allowing free movement both in expansion or withdrawal of the coating as in bending of the support of the latter.
To this end, this profile constituting a fractionation joint for a floor or wall covering, of the tiling, stone, shale, etc. type, applied to the floor or wall by means of a layer of sealing mortar. , is characterized in that it is constituted by a rigid hollow profile partially filled with a flexible, elastic and compressible material.
According to an additional characteristic of the invention, the profile comprises a rigid external U-shaped profile, embedded in the layer of sealing mortar and containing an internal profile in elastic material of the rubber type, this profile in elastic material being inserted at the interior of the rigid profile or else obtained, jointly with the rigid external profile, by coextrusion of a rigid plastic material and of a flexible plastic material integral with one another.
Various embodiments of the present invention will be described below, by way of non-limiting examples, with reference to the appended drawing in which
Figure 1 is a vertical and cross sectional view of a profile according to the invention constituting a fractionation joint for a floor covering of the tiling type.
Figure 2 is a vertical and cross sectional view of an alternative embodiment of the profile.
Figure 3 is a perspective view illustrating the use of a profile according to the invention as a rule of horizontal location.
Figure 4 is a vertical sectional view of profiles in place, as tracking rules, before pouring a cement screed or laying a tile.
The profile according to the invention which is shown in Figure 1 is designated as a whole by the reference 1. I1 is driven vertically into a gap separating two tiled areas 2 and 3 and it is engaged in a layer of sealing mortar 4 no still hardened. This layer 4 is itself applied to the floor 5 forming the support for the tiling 2.
Profile 1 is constituted by a long piece, extending over the entire length of the joint and which has a composite structure. I1 consists, in this non-limiting embodiment, of an external profile 6 of rigid plastic, produced by extrusion, and of an internal profile 7 of flexible, elastic and compressible plastic. The rigid external profile 6 has a U-shaped cross section of small width, terminated by a V-shaped lower end 8. It carries, on its lateral and vertical faces, grooves, ridges or other protuberances 9 favoring its anchoring in the layer of sealing mortar 4.
The internal profile 7, made of flexible plastic, of the rubber type, can be inserted inside the rigid external profile 6, at the place of its opening, as illustrated in FIG. 1. It can also come from extrusion together with the external profile 6, in the case where the composite profile 1 is produced by coextrusion of a rigid plastic material and a flexible plastic material integral with one another.
In the alternative embodiment illustrated in FIG. 2, the composite profile 11 according to the invention comprises a rigid external profile 12, metallic, hollow, which has in cross section substantially the shape of an arrow directed downwards. The lower head 13 of the profile 12 has a V-shaped cross section and is connected to the two lateral wings of the profile 12 by horizontal shoulders 14. At its upper end, the profile 12 ends in two small lips 15 folded horizontally. one towards the other, to define a narrow entry slit. The composite profile ll comprises a profile 16 of flexible and elastic material of the rubber type, which has two parts, namely an internal part 16a housed in the part upper of the external rigid profile 12 and an external part 16b situated in the interval between the two tiled zones 2 and 3. These two internal parts 16a and external 16b are connected together by a thin theam 16c which passes through the slot formed between the two wings 15 of the profile 12 folded inwards.
The composite profile, the non-limiting embodiments of which have been described above, offers the advantage that the profiles 7 and 16 made of flexible and elastic material allow free movement in the event of expansion or withdrawal of the coating 2, 3, as well as in the case of bending of the support 5.
Figures 3 and 4 illustrate how the composite profile according to the invention can be used as a rule for locating horizontality put in place before pouring a cement screed or laying a tile. The composite profile 1 is thus maintained in a vertical position, at the location which it must occupy in the finally poured screed or in the tiling laid subsequently. Profile 1 is maintained by lugs 17 which have horizontal wings 17a fixed to the underlying concrete layer and, on their upper surface, members 17b of U-shaped cross section and in which the profile is engaged and maintained 1. Thus it is possible to set up, parallel to each other, several sections 1 which then constitute rules for locating horizontality, during the subsequent pouring of the cement screed or the laying of the tiling, as it is illustrated in Figure 4.
