Abstract

Ceramic material for use in heating installations of all branches of technology as a heat-storing material or wear material with the aim of economically exploiting secondary raw materials containing iron oxide and at the same time generating savings in materials and energy as well as a decrease in the aggregates, while retaining a chemical resistance in the furnaces. The subject lies in the development of a ceramic material for heat storage, this material having a high volume stability and a stability with regard to changes in elevated temperature of up to 1400 DEG C, this material being based on iron oxide. It involves obtaining a high volumetric heat capacity and a high heat transmission coefficient to guarantee a high heat storage capacity with the smallest possible volume and optimum heating and cooling rates. In accordance with the invention, and in order to do this, secondary raw materials containing high contents of iron oxide are used, such as scale or clinker of iron or ferrous alloys as well as slag and/or fly dust from furnaces and/or inorganic fluxes, in mixtures of a particle size such that a high apparent density, preferably higher than 3.0 g/cm<3>, and a high stability with regard to temperature changes is obtained.
