Abstract

The tower (1) is used on electric food mixers or similar. It contains a vertical shaft (5) driven by an externally mounted motor, and retracts by pivoting to give access to the shaft seal (17) in the roof (11) of the mixer body. An upper shaft length (5) is permanently mounted in the tower, and a lower shaft length (10) passes through the roof (11). A bolted (27) coupling sleeve (13a, 13b) connects the two lengths, and the lower length is fixed (14) axially. Pins centre the tower relative to the lower shaft length, and the tower fulcrum axle (8) connects the towers and the roof (11) loosely. A gas strut (20) limits tower pivotting, and the lower shaft drops onto a flange (23) mounted static ring seal (24), when the prim. gland seal (17) is removed.
