Abstract

The connector employs a screw jack to effect the lateral expansion of a longitudinally split spigot, and may be used at the nodes of tree dimensional orthogonal furniture frames. Frame members (5) may be of a square hollow metal section, the connector providing a node block (1) and three square section spigots (2, 3, 4) in perpendicular relationships. Each spigot enters an open end of a member, e.g. a post or a rail, and is forked or split with a deep tapered notch (4c) cut on a diagonal. A threaded stud (7) traverses an inclined bore in one spigot leg (4a), at 45 deg. to the member axis, and pushes the legs (4a, 4b) apart to effect a grip on the inside of the member end.
