Abstract

The compactness of cigarette filters prepd. from >=1 sheet of fibrous material formed into a cylindrical filter roll is improved by impregnating the material with an aq. boric acid soln., then applying a soln. of PVA followed by (partially) drying before putting it into roll form. Treatment makes the filter less affected by moisture and therefore less easily crushed, without affecting its retention properties.
