Abstract

The pipe joint is made by inserting the end of one pipe (2) into the end of the other (1). An O-ring fits in a groove (5) in the bore of the larger pipe (1) and provides a seal. The two pipes are held together by screws (6) into bosses (7) spaced around the outer surface of the larger pipe (1). The screws have up pointed ends which bite into the surface of the inner pipe (2) and so prevent any axial movement. An alternative design uses a ring with a sharp inner edge which bites into the inner pipe when distorted by radial screws.
