Abstract
A heat pipe (20) runs between the exhaust manifold (16) and the inlet manifold (14) of the engine. It is bent at its heat absorbing end(32) so that a substantial length runs axially along the centreline of the exhaust manifold whilst its central part leaves the manifold radially through the side of the manifold. The heat releasing end (24) runs centrally through the inlet manifold before it branches to the several cylinders. This end carries a series of ribs (28) which increase the heat transfer surface. The ribs are perpendicular to the flow of inlet gas for max. turbulence and heat transffer.
