Abstract

The humidity content of agricultural produce such as grain is measured to determine price. Microwaves provide rapid drying while electonic balance determines weight. The microwave generator (1) is coupled by waveguide flange (9) to an applicator (2) in which electronic balance (3) is located. A platform (3c) of dielectric material carries a container (11) for grain and is accessible via an opening (12) and having a cover (13) with aerating holes (14). A microprocessor determines initial weight of grain and controls the microwave generator actuation. After a time period the microprocessor switches off the microwave power and compares new weight against initial weight to determine humidity.
