Abstract

Particles in suspension or emulsion in a liq. are deposited on the surface of a porous support by (a) prepg. an aq. compsn. comprising a dispersion of the ingredients to be deposited and a binder which can allow formation of a labile foam; (b) injecting air into the compsn. to form a foam having limited heat stability on contact with the support; (c) applying a layer of the foam to the support; and (d) heat drying the foam-covered support to remove air and water from the foam. Process is used specifically for printing a fibrous support (by means of rotating frame, doctor blade or roller printing appts.) with an ink comprising a coloured labile foam of density 0.05-0.70 and contg. a dispersion of pigments and a binder. Use of organic solvent is obviated, a smaller amt. of thickener is used and the compsn. has low density and good rheological properties.
